Joe Lombardo on Health Care

Federal support of Medicaid improved state's health outcomes

Lombardo speaks out against GOP's possible Medicaid cuts: "Nevada has demonstrated that federal investment in the state's Medicaid program has improved both health outcomes and productivity, yet challenges remain," Lombardo wrote. "By leveraging federal funding the state has expanded access to school health services, lowered the uninsured rate, and made significant progress in enhancing behavioral health care for both children and adults."

Double our investment in graduate medical education

By 2028, all health insurance plans in Nevada will be required to adopt standardized and digitized prior authorization plans, thus reducing delays for patients and providers. Concurrently, we are investing in partnerships that address both healthcare and economic development challenges. By doubling our investment in graduate medical education, incentivizing providers to serve in underserved areas, and leveraging telemedicine, we are ensuring quality care reaches every corner of the state.

$17 million expansion of mental health services

I will make sure government does its part by increasing reimbursement rates in areas of acute need, especially in mental health services. My budget includes an enhancement in Medicaid, to expand community behavioral health centers. This $17 million dollar expansion will add up to six clinics across the state in underserved areas including northern and rural Nevada. Ensuring more mental health services are available to anyone in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

Substantially revise or repeal the Public Option

The Public Option was passed in 2021 but won't be implemented until 2026. Serious questions remain about the rushed implementation of the Public Option, agency amendments to the statute, and lack of transparency. Getting Nevadans insured is the goal. At a minimum this law needs to be substantially revised, or better yet repealed, so we can re-focus on the real problem which is getting eligible but uninsured Nevadans the coverage they need.

Denounces state public option law as BS

[On coverage]: "The governor can make that a priority," Lombardo continued, referring to Sisolak. "He said his priority is health. And he's talking about (bull----) things like the public option." Sisolak last year signed Nevada's public health care option into law. Lombardo's campaign said, "the actual benefit of this public option bill has not been made evident, and Nevadans don't deserve to suffer through the beta test for this bad public policy, which was rushed through the Legislature."

Mask mandate didn't work, it was political theater

Lombardo also criticized the state's mask mandate as ineffective, saying that as head of Metro, he did not see a noticeable change in COVID infection rates among its 6,000 employees after the mandate went into place. Sisolak lifted the state's mask mandate in February, after putting it in place on July 30, 2021. "In my personal opinion, the mask didn't work. It was political theater to me."
