Annie Andrews on Energy & Oil

Temporary ban on diesel exports; suspend diesel tax

Q: The President struck an agreement with Russia to sell millions of gallons of diesel to the US. Should Congress have had a say?

Graham: I think everybody wants the war in Ukraine to end. we will all be safer when the war in Ukraine ends. I was so proud to get the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act passed through the Senate, the House, and signed into law by the president. It gives the president tools he can use if he so chooses to end the war through economic sanctions. So that is up to him as to whether or not he wants to use it or whether he wants to use something else.

Andrews: Instead of defending Ukraine, we have now thrown a lifeline to Russia. We need to suspend the federal state and gas diesel tax. We need a temporary ban on diesel exports.

Whitener: This agreement is a unilateral act. Congress should be checking the executive branch and the power the executive branch is wielding in these international markets.

Invest in wind and solar, as well as nuclear plants

Q: Would you support more nuclear reactors?

Andrews: It is in all of the above approach. We are learning a hard lesson about what happens when you continue to rely on foreign oil. My opponent's plan seems to be let's just drill more. But there are so many more opportunities out there, including investments in nuclear energy, including supporting the Savannah River site. But we need to invest in wind and solar and think about the future for our children and our grandchildren and what kind of world we want to leave behind.

Graham: I will do everything I can to support the Savannah River site or other nuclear projects. When it comes to solar power, let's look at the Democrats who tried to invest in solar power farms, which completely failed because all the tax credits ended up going to the Chinese, helping the Chinese more than it did the United States. We cannot survive off of wind and solar power. We have to drill for gas.
