Edward Durr on Abortion

Don't shield info about out-of-state women seeking abortion

A3975: Concerns protections with respect to nondisclosure of certain patient information relating to reproductive healthcare services and protecting access to services and procedures related to abortion for certain out-of-State persons.

Analysis by CNN.com, July 1, 2022:The bills shield health care providers from other state's inquiries and prohibit the extradition of any person who comes to New Jersey seeking legal abortion services. The measures will "explicitly protect the rights of out of state women to an abortion in New Jersey," Murphy said.

N.J. Monitor reason to vote NO:Republicans argue that the bill goes too far in a state with high abortion rates. The executive director of pro-life group New Jersey Right to Life said the law signs a "death warrant for thousands of innocent children."

Legislative Outcome:Passed Assembly 49-16-15 on Jun/29/22; passed Senate 24-13-3 on Jun/29/22; Edward Durr voted NO; signed by Gov. Phil Murphy on Jul/1/22.
