Jack Ciattarelli on Health Care

Oppose a one-size-fits-all vaccination schedule

Jack will oppose a one-size-fits-all vaccination schedule, support a religious exemption for vaccines, and expand the ability of parents to claim a philosophical objection by creating an ombudsman in state government for those claims.

Would veto ending religious exemptions for vaccinations

Public school students in New Jersey are required to be vaccinated against illnesses like measles, mumps, polio, and chickenpox--though the state does allow parents to opt out for religious reasons. A Democratic-sponsored bill to remove that religious exemption failed twice to pass.

Ciattarelli said he would veto that bill if he's elected and it came to his desk. He also said he would expand the rules to include a "philosophical exemption" to required school vaccinations.

COVID: Against requiring showing proof of vaccination

Ciattarelli came out forcefully against not only vaccine passports, but also Rutgers' decision to require students get the coronavirus vaccine if they want to return to campus this fall. "The idea that Americans would be forced to carry around a personal health record to attend a ballgame, see a concert, or go out to dinner is simply wrong," said Ciatterelli in a Facebook post. "Governor Murphy is wrong for even having considered it."

Restore state mental health services but don't raise taxes

When Governor Bullock made the decision to cut mental health services across the state, it was the wrong thing to do. Many community-based mental health services went away, and it will be difficult to bring those back, even if you fund them. We are hugely underserving the part of the population in mental health crisis. If I can find the wherewithal without raising taxes to shuffle the resources in our budget to more fully fund community mental health services, we will do that.
