Keisha Lance Bottoms on Health Care

Expand Medicaid to cover 900,000 more people

Q: What would you do to expand Medicaid access?

BOTTOMS: I have repeatedly said I want to expand Medicaid in this state. My opponent has said he opposes Medicaid expansion and recently has changed his mind. The reason being there are 300,000 people in this state who don't have coverage because we didn't expand Medicaid. Also 600,000 people dropped their insurance since the beginning of the year. Some people wonder if I don't have Medicaid, then what difference does it make? It means that when you go to a hospital, and you can't be seen in emergency room, it is because the health care system is broken.

JACKSON: Well, first of all, I am going to expand Medicaid to cover everybody. I just want to do it in a way that we don't lose $4.5 billion that we are currently getting for the state because that would really hurt our hospitals and doctors all over the state. But I will expand.

Expand Medicaid so that 300,000 Georgians can get coverage

As Governor, Keisha will bring the strong leadership that Georgia needs during these tumultuous times. She will fight to expand Medicaid so that 300,000 Georgians can get the health care coverage they need and to prevent more hospitals - especially those in rural communities - from shutting their doors.

Keep ObamaCare without giving up private health insurance

Bottoms said "there are millions of Americans who don't want to give up their private health insurance" in response to a question about former Vice President Joe Biden's opposition to Medicare for All. "To think that we have to start over on health care and add that to the many challenges that we have, I think really is unsettling to a lot of people. We have the Affordable Care Act and what better person to repair the damage that's been done than the person who helped create it?"
