Mikie Sherrill on Health Care

Mandate greater transparency in health care pricing

Simply receiving quality care should never break the bank. A critical piece to addressing skyrocketing costs is greater transparency in health care pricing. With all other major financial decisions, like buying a home, people know what they will be paying upfront. But in health care, patients often don't know the price tag until they receive the bill.

Affordable, accessible healthcare is a lifeline for families

Affordable and accessible healthcare is truly a lifeline for families. One of the reasons I first ran for Congress was to protect and improve the Affordable Care Act passed by President Obama, which protected coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, provided subsidies for low-income families, and made critical investments in preventive care. It's essential that the federal government extend the subsidies that have helped low-income families buy their health coverage on GetCoveredNJ.

Let Medicare negotiate drug prices, option to buy in

We need to make sure we protect the hard-won gains in our healthcare system. This includes protections for pre-existing conditions and the ten essential health benefits, as well as the ability of our children to stay on their parent's insurance until they turn 26. Let's allow Medicare to leverage its buying power to negotiate lower drug prices. Let's find a fiscally responsible way to allow certain individuals older than 55 the option of buying into Medicare.

Congress should stop efforts to repeal Obamacare

Key messages: Sherrill said that while she was in the Navy "I never asked if someone was a Republican or a Democrat before starting a mission. I knew we were all Americans and we all had the same mission." She cited the 2017 tax law, efforts to repeal Obamacare, and the lack of an infrastructure plan as examples of times when "leaders in Congress refuse to work for New Jersey to address these concerns."

PVS self-description: "The Political Courage Test provides voters with positions on key issues. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
