Why import oil when we have abundant oil reserves here?

HILTON: Sensible things that will actually help reduce carbon emissions without hurting every California family and business. For example, it makes absolutely no sense right now to do what we're doing--importing oil halfway around the world from the Middle East and from South America, when we have abundant oil reserves here. That actually increases carbon emissions, as well as raising gas prices. As long as we're using those energy products in California, let's use what we produce here, which is produce cleaner than anywhere else in the world. We need to be practical and sensible about these goals rather than just following ideological objectives that increase the cost of living for every California family and business.
