Tony Sanchez on Tax Reform

Former Democratic Challenger TX Governor

No new taxes; stretch existing dollars

Dan Morales? proposal to raise taxes would punish the working people of Texas for the mistakes of Rick Perry, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tony Sanchez said today. ?I will take new taxes off the table,? Sanchez said. ?Dan Morales has not only put new taxes on the table, he?s made them the first course.?

Sanchez said he believes we can cut administrative expenses in education and spend that money in the classrooms. He added that we can take maximum advantage of federal tax dollars that Texans pay but are not returned to Texas. ?Rick Perry?s veto of a Medicaid reform bill cost Texas $400 million in federal dollars. That mistake should not be corrected by making hard-working Texans pay higher taxes,? Sanchez said. ?Let?s take a hard look at how tax dollars are spent and how those dollars can be stretched.?
