Harriet Hageman on Principles & Values | |
A: Strongly Agree.
Q: What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
A: The government's responsibility is to protect our individual rights and freedoms as guaranteed by the First Amendment, as well as those freedom of religion and conscience provisions set forth in most State Constitutions. The government is not only failing in that regard in several circumstances, but has taken an outright hostile stance against people of faith and the organizations that they support. Such hostility has manifested itself in our educational institutions (withholding funds from religious schools, efforts to fight the establishment of charter schools), and through the use of government agencies to punish individuals for exercising their religion as they see fit.
