Support temporary work visas, but no shortcut to immigration

I support a program for temporary work visas, but only where jobs are not filled by Californians and only for the period that job assignment lasts-not for a set period that would last for years.
Any changes to the visa system must be supported by adequate resources.
Temporary work visas should not be a shortcut to immigration. We must protect the rights of legal immigrants and ensure that all seeking citizenship do so by the same set of rules.

Not even a suggestion of amnesty

I remain adamantly opposed to any amnesty provisions. Our experience in the past has clearly demonstrated that even the suggestion of amnesty has led to increases in illegal immigration and new burdens on state and local budgets.
Washington must take fiscal responsibility for its past failures. California and our communities now must devote state and local funds to provide services and emergency care to undocumented immigrants.

Oppose amnesty for undocumented immigrants

I will oppose amnesty for undocumented immigrants. Bush has sparked a needed debate on the issue of undocumented immigrants. It's clear that our current programs are not working, and that more needs to be done to secure our borders. The current situation is intolerable: states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas take the brunt of the impacts and end up overburdening state and local resources to deal with a national problem.
