Matt Dolan on Principles & Values

Supports long tradition of faith-based charities

Q: RELIGIOUS LIBERTY: Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

A: Strongly Agree

Q: Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

A: Neutral

Q: What should be the relationship between the church and the state?

A: The U.S. Constitution is clear that the state shall not prohibit the free exercise of religion. Further, America's faith-based organizations and charities play a vital role in helping to improve, educate and enrich society. This relationship has a long tradition of being valued and supported by the public sector, which should certainly continue unabated.

Instilled with Catholic values of faith, work, & service

Q: Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

A: I believe in God and have a strong faith. Having grown up in a Catholic household, my parents instilled in me and my siblings the values of faith, hard work and service. Before my mother met my father, she was in a convent to become a Maryknoll Nun. She did not take her final vows and met my father where they raised six children. Her faith guided us through our lives.

America is the exceptional nation with sacred values

America is the exceptional nation. We do not apologize for our sacred values or way of life. To protect them, we need to uphold the founding ideals of our nation that make us who we are. This begins with limited government and the protection of personal freedom and liberty. As a U.S. Senator, I will only support judges that pledge to abide by a strict interpretation of the Constitution

Few understand the threat of cancel culture more than me

Few understand the threat of cancel culture more than me. Rights afforded by the Constitution, like freedom of speech and due process, are under attack in our classrooms, town squares and sports stadiums. Liberals are weaponizing mob justice and cancel campaigns to silence and censor people and businesses--large and small. It destroys livelihoods and our history. I will move beyond political correctness and hold to account the forces of cancel culture to defend our values and customs.

Need leader to oppose widening chasm of Democratic socialism

From the 1930s through World War II and thereafter, Senator Taft led the conservative charge in response to liberal Democrats' Big Government philosophy in Washington, D.C. Seven decades later, Ohio Republicans once again find themselves in need of a public leader willing to stand astride the widening chasm of Democratic socialism that threatens to swallow our personal freedom, liberties and the founding principles of the republic.
