Provide paid sick days for illness or family care
Legislative Summary: AB1522: This bill would enact the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014 to provide that an employee who works in California for 30 or more days a year is entitled to paid sick days to be accrued at a rate of
no less than one hour for every 30 hours worked.Analysis by San Francisco Examiner: An employee can use their paid sick leave for the diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition or to obtain preventative care for the
worker or a family member. Likewise, an employee may use their leave if they are a victim of stalking, domestic violence or sexual assault. An employer can't deny an employee the right to use accrued sick days or discharge or any manner discriminate
against an employee for using accrued sick days.
Legislative Outcome: Passed Senate 22-8-10 on Aug/29/14; State Sen. Kevin de Leon voted YES; Passed Assembly 52-25-2 on Aug/30/14; Signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Sep/10/14.
