Keisha Lance Bottoms on Corporations

Stop insurance tax charges passed along to consumers

Q: Businesses are getting their tax breaks while citizens are left with the bill. When will we get our tax break?

BOTTOMS: There are two things I would like to address to specifically address tax breaks throughout this state. One is through auto insurance. Right now, there's a 2.25% charge that auto insurance companies pass on to consumers. The average consumer and household has two cars. That would be $140 per year in savings. And also through the homeowners insurance tax as currently passed on to consumers. Also at around 2.25%. I want to make sure that that is going back into the pockets of consumers. that will save on average $70 a year.

JACKSON: I have committed to cut the income tax in half the first term. I'm going to freeze and then reduce the property taxes as well. We also have a gas tax reduction in times like we have right now. I'm also going to have the most efficient government so that we can cut the overhead and allow us to cut income taxes.

Crack down on corporate landlords that are buying up houses

Keisha will work to eliminate income taxes for teachers, crack down on corporate landlords that are buying up houses and making it harder for families to buy a home or afford rent, and she will invest in education so our children have better pathways to success through career training or college.
