Keisha Lance Bottoms on War & Peace

Suspend the state gas tax because of the war in Iran

Rick Jackson disclosed that he is "the largest outside investor" in a Texas oil refinery project. "We're going to sell our oil, over 100,000 barrels a day, and that gives us more ability to do it ourselves. It costs less. We don't have to ship it all over the place," Jackson said.

While Kemp's suspension of the gas tax could marginally reduce drivers' costs, crude oil prices, refining expenses and distribution costs also determine prices at the pump, and prices are likely to remain high as the U.S. war on Iran blocks the shipment of Middle East oil to the West. Ahead of Kemp's move suspending the state gas tax, Jackson several weeks earlier suggested a similar move: he proposed automatically suspending Georgia's gas tax when prices increase 35 cents within seven days, or 75 cents within 30 days in the event of war or a natural disaster.

Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms has said she too would suspend the tax because of the war in Iran, Georgia Public Broadcasting reported.
