Keisha Lance Bottoms on Families & Children

Make sure funding is in place for special needs children

Q: What steps would you take for special needs education?

BOTTOMS: What we need to make sure that we have in place for our children who are receiving a public education, who have special needs, is to make sure that there are also wraparound services available to families. We know that the challenges with our beautiful children, with special needs, doesn't just end when they leave the classroom. Those challenges often extend into the home. We want to make sure that those services are also extended outside of the classroom and to the families. and then most importantly, making sure that the funding is in place.

JACKSON: I absolutely want to expand our health services for all special needs children. These special needs kids need other services, mental health services, teaching specialty teaching and so forth like that. When I'm governor, the special needs children are going to go to the front of the line. not be in the back of the line.
