Keisha Lance Bottoms on Budget & Economy

Create an affordable housing trust fund

Q: How will you lower the cost of living for young Georgians to make essentials like homes and health care more affordable?

JACKSON: One of the things that you need to understand is that your record is who you are. in 2021, we had the worst inflation that we've ever had. And under Mayor Bottoms' leadership, the inflation rate of Atlanta was 40% higher than Biden's highest in 50-year inflation. This is the kind of policy we can't have in running Georgia, not having people safe to go to work or go to the gas store. There's no way this should happen as a governor. Bad mayors don't make good governors.

BOTTOMS: I would like to create an affordable housing trust fund. This is something that I've had experience in doing in making sure that young people have an opportunity to own their own homes. We can provide grants. We can provide low interest loans and also make sure that we crack down on corporate landlords who are raising prices throughout this state.
