Tate Reeves on Tax Reform

Single best thing we can do is eliminate state's income tax

The single best thing we can do for our state and her people is to eliminate our state's income tax. This money does not belong to the government. It belongs to the hard-working Mississippians who earn it. In today's economy, the competition among states for projects and investments is fierce. You've heard me say before that we are competing against states like Texas, Tennessee, and Florida, all of which have no state income tax.

We will eliminate our state's income tax once and for all

We can and should do more to put additional dollars into the pockets of Mississippians. We will do this, by eliminating our state's income tax once and for all. We can do this and we can do this without raising other taxes. You've heard me say this before, but I'm going to keep saying it because it's that important: government doesn't have anything that it doesn't first take from somebody else.

Wants to push for a full elimination of state's income tax

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves promised to push for a full elimination of the state's income tax during the 2023 legislative session. The move would make Mississippi the 10th state with no income tax. Addressing a crowd of business leaders Reeves touted "the largest tax cut in Mississippi history during the 2022 session" and said he wanted to go even further.

Attract business by elimination of the state's income tax

We need to consider how to attract companies and economic projects that transform communities--create generational wealth and lift families out of poverty. It takes a bold vision that lasts forever. The heart of that vision is the elimination of the state's income tax. By eliminating the income tax, we can put ourselves in a position to stand out. We can win those projects. We can throw out the welcome mat for the dreamers and the visionaries. It can lead to more wealth for all Mississippians.

We need a bold move: elimination of the income tax

I believe that in order to fully capture the potential of this historic moment, we must think big. We need a bold move. This is the time for an action that will turn heads all across the country and get money and people flowing in. And I believe that move is the elimination of the income tax. It is a reward for our hard workers, and an incentive for others to invest here, to grow here, and to live here.
