Tom Birmingham on Abortion

Former State Senate President; Democratic Challenger MA Governor

Supported clinic buffer zones

Tom’s commitment to a woman’s right to choose, with privacy and safety, contributed to the passage of legislation that creates a “buffer zone” around clients seeking services at reproductive health clinics.

Insurance for contraception & state workers’ abortions

Tom has fought-and will continue to do so until it becomes law-to ensure that women’s contraception is covered by insurance plans. “This is a matter of equity and health and should become law,” said Tom, who notes that the bill has passed the Senate. Another insurance inequity, a prohibition against abortion coverage for state workers, was addressed through legislation and now state employees do have access to affordable, safe abortion services.
