Ban assault weapons; more licensing & penalties
Massachusetts has led the way in passing a strong, rational gun law. Senate President Birmingham championed this 1998 Gun Control Act. The primary component is a ban on assault weapons, and other provisions make guns harder to acquire,
penalties stronger and the licensing process more comprehensive. “This legislation is not a panacea but it is an important step toward making Massachusetts a safer place for all,” he said.
