Tom Birmingham on Civil Rights

Former State Senate President; Democratic Challenger MA Governor

Funding to support gays & lesbians in public schools

Tom fought intolerance and ignorance by preserving funds to foster accepting and supportive environments for gay and lesbian students in Massachusetts public schools. These funds, he said, are a targeted and appropriate way to fight the prejudice, depression and thoughts of suicide that confront gay youth in such great numbers.

Domestic partnership benefits for state employees

Tom and the Senate have repeatedly supported domestic partnership benefits for state employees and, with local approval, city and town employees. This legislation is necessary if all public employees are to enjoy equal benefits of their employment. Tom will support this legislation until it becomes law and that inequity is erased.
