Fighting for public schools - improving teachers, more accountability
Make literacy our top priority, with every 3rd grader reading at or above grade level
Raise standards for new teachers and require competency in the subjects they teach
Crack down on waste by school districts, to put more money in the classroom and spend less on bureaucracy
Reform the tenure system to expedite the process to remove teachers who are not doing their job

Supports back-to-basics and tougher standards
Lead New Jersey so that our schools better prepare our children for the future by helping students and teachers meet tougher standards.
Put a greater emphasis on character education and teaching the basics.
Think more creatively about how to best utilize our schools by creating more after- school programs so children have alternatives to the streets or coming home to an empty house.

Private school vouchers abandon the public schools
The papers also drew the stark contrast between McGreevey and Bret Schundler on major issues of concern to New Jersey’s families - fighting for public schools vs. abandoning them with a reckless private school voucher scheme; fighting for good drivers
vs. letting auto insurance companies decide rates; protecting a woman’s right to choose vs. making abortion illegal even in the cases of rape and incest, and; protecting New Jersey’s tough gun laws vs. allowing people to carry concealed weapons.
