In recent years, the federal government has taken on a larger role in education. Bills like "No Child Left Behind" have moved in the direction of centralizing our education systems and removing decision making from our communities. Predictably, the results have been poor and the American education system has become less competitive. Now is the time we return decision making to our own communities.
In addition, there is now overwhelming evidence that competition in our education system improves outcomes and reduces cost; therefore, we must encourage school choice and charter schools. Even with these steps, it is important to acknowledge that the most important aspect of a child's education in parental involvement.
