Regulation should be governed by the free market
Regulation is necessary but should be governed by the free market. Regulators need to understand that they serve the private economy, not the other way around. All agencies should be graded on quality and efficiency.
Regulations must make sense and not pick winners and losers in the economy. Rational legal reforms like loser pays are essential to keep our economy competitive.

Disclosure is best disinfectant for diseased campaign system
We need more statesmen to enter politics, not more career politicians. The 1974 limits on spending have only cemented protected incumbents, who win with large networks of contributors. Immediate disclosure--sunlight--is the best disinfectant
for a diseased campaign finance system. We must also have term limits for Congress, and repeal McCain-Feingold, which stifles free speech and has empowered liberal groups but has had no positive effects.

Term limits for members of Congress
Q: Do you believe our Constitution authorizes term limits for members of Congress?A: Career politicians are the reason our government has gotten much too large.
Career politicians benefit when government does so much because they can manipulate government for votes. I would like to think that term limits are not necessary--that voters can exercise a free choice to kick out a legislator who stays too long.
Unfortunately, with the media the way it is today, we need to enact term limits to provide some measure of perspective in our Congress.
Q: Do term limits need to be constitutionally vetted, and if so, where specifically are term limits authorized?
A:
Term limits may not be authorized and may have to be instituted by Constitutional amendment.

Mixing money & politics causes corruption & partisanship
One of the basics is found in Matthew 6:24, which says that you can't serve God and money. And you know what? I think the same thing holds in politics. Right now, Washington is populated by people who are involved in politics to make money
for themselves, to make it a career. I think that's why we have the corruption that we've seen. I think that's why we have the partisanship. I think that's why we have the failure of results.

Ok if church identifies candidates who favor its principles
Q: My church is currently under IRS investigation for "political involvement" due to my identifying politicians who support the destruction of innocent unborn children. Would you remove the gag rule from pastors like me & repeal the restrictions against

Smaller districts better against special interests
A California State Assembly Member represents more than 450,000 people, and a State Senate district includes nearly one million people. Legislators spend countless hours on the phone raising money. I have a plan to make legislative districts
small enough that anyone can run, and they won't need special interest money to do it. These smaller, neighborhood districts will allow elections to be decided on issues and character, not 30 second commercials or vicious mail pieces.

Replace Environmental Quality Act to allow building
I'm a builder and can build in other states for a fraction of the cost in California. The key to solving the housing crisis is to replace the California Environmental Quality Act with greatly streamlined, sensible reforms.
Impact fees need to be limited and approval time needs to be shortened. We need more trade school education to prepare our young people for construction jobs.

Organizational Self-Description: U.S. Term Limits, the nation`s oldest and largest term limits advocacy group, announced that 14 new signers of its congressional term limits amendment pledge have been elected to the 114th Congress. The group includes five new senators, eight new House members and one House incumbent who signed the pledge for the first time this cycle. The pledge calls for members to co-sponsor and vote for a constitutional amendment limiting House members to three terms (six years) and Senators to two terms (12 years). The USTL President said, `The American people are fed up with career politicians in Washington and strongly embracing term limits as a remedy. Gallup polling shows that 75% of Americans support term limits.`
Opposing legal argument: [ACLU, Nov. 7, 2014]: In U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton (May 22, 1995), the Court ended the movement to enact term limits for Congress on a state-by-state basis. The Court held that the
qualifications for Congress established in the Constitution itself could not be amended by the states without a constitutional amendment, and that the notion of congressional term limits violates the `fundamental principle of our representative democracy `that the people should chose whom they please to govern them.``
Opposing political argument: [Cato Institute Briefing Paper No. 14, Feb. 18, 1992]: Several considerations may explain political scientists` open hostility to term limitation:
- Political scientists were instrumental in promoting the professionalization of legislators.
- They are cynical about the attentiveness, general knowledge, and judgmental capacity of the average voter.
- They are committed to the conservation of leadership.
- They perceive attacks on professional politicians as a threat to their own self-proclaimed professionalism.
- And political partisanship may encourage them to oppose term limits.
