Focus on reducing budget deficit instead of tax cuts

Our country is running record budget deficits. The federal government currently owes over $8 trillion. That works out to about $27,000 for each US citizen. And the debt is growing by $1.6 billion a day. Washington has responded with massive tax cuts for the wealthy. Faced with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina politicians proposed another huge tax cut for businesses--to be paid for with $50 billion in cuts to programs such as food stamps, Medicare, farm supports and veterans benefits.
