Critical state leads on expanding access to the ballot box
With the United States Supreme Court and numerous state governments actively stripping away voting rights, it is critical that Massachusetts be a leader on expanding access to the ballot box.
As Attorney General, Shannon will defend the recently-enacted VOTES Act from frivolous right-wing court challenges and ensure the law is fairly and effectively implemented.

Strengthen enforcement of our public records law
Throughout her legal career, Shannon has never shied away from holding powerful institutions accountable. As Attorney General, Shannon will invest in a new Public Integrity Unit to tackle public corruption and investigate public officials accused
of violating the law. Shannon will also strengthen enforcement of our public records law and support efforts to ensure that the Governor's Office, the Legislature, and the Judiciary are beholden to this law.

Be aggressive in ensuring public records laws are enforced
In addition to protecting workers, consumers and civil rights, the attorney general is also tasked with enforcing the state's public records law.
However, only twice has the office ever brought cases to enforce that law. Liss-Riordan said she would be "aggressive in ensuring public records laws are enforced."

Activist to register new voters
In the early 1990s, shortly after graduating from Harvard, Shannon co-founded the Third Wave, a young women's movement which brought together a diverse array of activists.
In the summer of '92, they registered new voters across the country and activated and engaged women, people of color, working people, and others who had been left behind by Washington politics.
Twenty-eight years later, when watching the Kavanaugh hearings with her daughter, Shannon shared her history of activism and assured her that this time would be different.
It wasn't.
So Shannon once again decided to change things, this time by running for U.S. Senate.

Pledge to limit campaign spending from outside groups
The three-way Democratic primary for incumbent Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey's seat may see the candidates sign the so-called People's Pledge to limit outside campaign financing. Politico reported that U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy's campaign had recently
reached out to Markey and labor attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan with proposed language to limit spending from outside groups and plans for a pledge signing ceremony. Kennedy had already called on his opponents to sign a pledge after he entered the
race in September, the Boston Globe reported.Politico reported that the campaigns were finalizing details and could sign an agreement within the next two weeks. Liss-Riordan and Kennedy had confirmed plans to sign the pledge, but the pair postponed
while the Senate was in session, with the Markey campaign telling Politico that the senator was "actively looking at" a pledge agreement.
