Kevin Stine on Health Care

We need real healthcare reform, like single-payer

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Expand ObamaCare"?

A: Strongly support. We need real healthcare reform, such as a single-payer system.

Keep the guarantee of Medicare: not on basis of income level

Ron Wyden teamed with Paul Ryan to draft a plan to end Medicare as we know it. Medicare gives a guarantee, one that allows our senior citizens access to health care. The Wyden-Ryan plan puts us on a path to end that guarantee. The central tenet of Medicare is the linkage between the senior citizen and the guarantee, once that is broken it makes it easier to break the rest apart, whereupon the cost goes onto the senior.

I support a more inclusive health care system. I believe health care should be a basic human right in our country, and not be doled out on the basis of your income level. We should work towards a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system.

Oppose semi-privatization of Medicare

Stine said he criticizes Wyden for joining forces with U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, in seeking semi-privatization of Medicare in 2011 and 2012. If the plan had worked, it would have made it easier to cut Medicare benefits from senior citizens, Stine said.
