Aric Nesbitt on Civil Rights

There's two genders; there's two sexes

The Michigan Board of Education approved new sex education standards for public schools. The revised guidelines, which include language addressing sexual orientation and gender identity, have sparked mixed reactions across the state. However, Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt criticized the decision. "Our students should be learning the 26 letters of the alphabet, not the 26 pronouns that are out there," Nesbitt said. "There's two genders, there's two sexes. Let's get back to basics."

Against a system sacrificing merit for discriminatory quotas

The Michigan Senate passed a resolution to encourage schools and other institutions to adopt and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. State Sen. Aric Nesbitt said during the session he would vote against the resolution because the body should be focused on "real priorities."

"We all want hardworking Michiganders to succeed, but not through a system that sacrifices merit for discriminatory quotas," he said.
