Mark Gordon on Civil Rights

Signs anti-transgender bathroom bill allowing for lawsuits

Gordon has signed a bill allowing people to sue if they encounter a member of the opposite sex--which, as defined by the bill, includes any transgender person--in certain single-sex, multi-occupancy restrooms or changing rooms, or if they have to share sleeping quarters with one in a state prison. Those who encounter a trans person or a member of the opposite sex has a cause of action to sue the governmental entity overseeing it if the entity did not take reasonable steps to restrict access.

Ban favoring or disfavoring government hiring by race or sex

Wyoming's governor signed into law a bill banning government entities from favoring or disfavoring people by race, color, religion or sex, and from teaching those biases in schools or workplaces. At the same time, Gov. Mark Gordon vetoed a similar diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) ban, saying the other bill wasn't as clear or necessary.
