Eleni Kounalakis on Civil Rights

Recommit to ending violence against transgender people

As we solemnly declare November 20 as Transgender Remembrance Day, we honor, commemorate, and memorialize those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence and their loved ones. Today we recommit ourselves to ending violence against transgender people and to creating a safer, more inclusive, more accepting, & equal future so all Californians can live their lives out loud. We will continue to stand proudly with our transgender community and to demand equal rights and safety for all.

I'm proud we have enacted many protections for LGBTQ+ people

Lt. Governor Kounalakis announced she has established a council of transgender leaders to create a dialogue between state leaders and the transgender community in California. "Here in California, I'm proud we have enacted many protections for LGBTQ+ people, but we still have work to do, and that is especially true for issues facing our transgender and nonbinary family, friends, and neighbors," said Lt. Governor Kounalakis.
