Jason Pizzo on Civil Rights

I have never pushed to install DEI or wokeism

Senate Democratic Leader Jason Pizzo issued a rebuttal to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' State of the State Address where he bluntly laid out his concerns on the direction of the state, including its hardline focus on social issues and missteps on illegal immigration.

"No Republican, certainly no serious Democrat, sought to expand any of the policies or positions Republicans claimed were so rampant and so necessary to defeat," Pizzo said. "I have never pushed to install or even expand CRT [Critical Race Theory], ESG [Environmental, Social and Governance], DEI [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] or wokeism. For none of these will lower your property insurance, your rent, nor will they result in your kids' GPAs getting higher, or their test scores going higher."

Pizzo also wondered, despite its abundance of problems, how Florida Republicans have held legislative and executive control for decades in the state while seizing on mundane issues instead of tackling its real problems.

We must stand strong with the LGBTQ+ community

SAVE Action PAC, a South Florida advocacy group dedicated backing LGBTQ equality and candidates who support that effort, has announced the endorsement Democratic candidates for the 2022 Election.

Jason Pizzo noted HB 1557, legislation Gov. Ron DeSantis signed late last month restricting classroom instruction and teacher-led discussion of sexual and gender identity in public schools. Critics have derided the measure, which they’ve dubbed the "Don’t Say Gay" bill, as an attempt to quell references to non-heteronormative people and families.

"More than ever, we must stand strong / stand united with the LGBTQ+ community against the new wave of cruel attacks," Pizzo said. "Our state government has failed the people of Florida by choosing to pass hateful laws like the 'Don't Say Gay' bill and continually not taking action on workplace discrimination. We are the last line of defense and I am committed to never backing down from the fight for equality and justice for all."
