Jim Pederson on Principles & Values

I'm unhappy with Washington today; Kyl's OK with it

The frustrating thing is that my opponent seems ok with this. He's ok with where we are and maintaining the status quo. He rubber-stamps this misguided administration. It's time for a change. Not the status quo, and not a rubber stamp. My opponent's been back in Washington for 20 years. That city's broken. It's time to fix things. I've proven in my career that I'm pretty good at fixing things. Send me back there to fix it. And remember, you can't change Washington until you change the people you send there.

Portrays Kyl as extremist and himself as more like McCain

Pederson's early strategy has been to portray Kyl as an extreme conservative responsible for the ever-increasing deaths in Iraq and as beholden to pharmaceutical and oil special interests. He's also been pointing out the differences between Kyl and McCain, hoping to appeal to voters who like McCain's maverick style. Pederson said, "In most of these key issues, he's been on the opposite side of John McCain."
