Secure our borders so illegal immigration isn't commonplace

As the son of a Panamanian immigrant, I understand the special meaning of making the United States a new home. I also strongly believe the current immigration system is broken. Illegal immigration has become commonplace. When I am your Senator, I will take the lead in crafting an immigration policy that secures our borders while bringing order and common sense back to immigration. For too long the federal government has insufficiently enforced our immigration laws. We must be willing to dedicate appropriate resources to fully secure our borders and punish employers who encourage illegal immigration by exploiting cheap labor. We owe this much to the hardworking, law-abiding families in our communities and the legal immigrants who have played by the rules to earn American citizenship.
