Kevin Zeese on Immigration |
A: Yes. I favor legal borders, legal workers and legal immigration. International trade agreements have resulted in one million farmers in Mexico being forced to stop farming. The root cause of the immigration problem is economic. We have more than tripled the border patrol, arrest one million annually trying to cross the border but economics trumps enforcement. To stem the flow of illegal immigration we need to renegotiate trade agreements so that workers south of the border are treated more fairly. We need to enforce existing laws in the United States that hire undocumented workers. We need to create a transparent immigration process that allows sufficient legal immigration to meet the needs of the US economy. The two old parties are not addressing the underlying economic causes of illegal immigration because they were both supportive of the trade agreements that are one of the major causes of the economic distress of workers in Mexico.
