Mike Miles on War & Peace

America has lost much world respect due to Iraq

America has lost much of the respect of most of the world. Our invasion of Iraq undermined our foreign policy--our ability to promote our long-term interests and solve critical problems in mutually beneficial ways. I opposed the invasion of Iraq because it was not going to make us more secure and because the Bush administration had not made a strong enough case for the preemptive use of military force.

Preemptive use of force is dangerous

As a student of foreign policy, I strongly believe that a policy of preemptive use of force, which is already being considered for adoption by other countries, is dangerous to the world order of which we are part. I will work hard to revoke the preemptive use of force and remove it from our strategic doctrine.

Opposed Iraq Invasion due to lack of answers

I opposed the invasion of Iraq because the Bush administration had not answered the right questions. Now that we are there, I believe we need to help reconstruct Iraq in a way that fosters stability and gives some form of democracy a chance to take root.

America has lost respect of world over Iraq

America has lost much of the respect of most of the world. Our invasion of Iraq undermined our foreign policy -- our ability to promote our long-term interests and solve critical problems in mutually beneficial ways. I opposed the invasion of Iraq because it was not going to make us more secure and because the Bush administration had not made a strong enough case for the preemptive use of military force.
