Highest level of commitment to U.S. troops in Iraq

Q: What should the U.S. strategy be on the war in Iraq? Do we need an exit strategy?

A: I want to provide the highest level of commitment to U.S. troops as long as this country is involved. I favor a three-part strategy: No permanent U.S. military bases inside Iraq, competitive bidding on reconstruction contracts and creation of an Iraqi oil company with its ownership squarely in the hands of the Iraqi people.

Protect our troops in Iraq, and no permanent bases

All three [Democratic] candidates were critical of the war in Iraq, with Morrison saying the troops need to be protected, although he didn't specify how. He also said there should be no permanent U.S. military bases in Iraq; that bids for reconstruction projects there should be competitive; and that Iraq needs its own national oil company.
