Vouchers for public schools--competition improves schools

Q: Should the government let parents choose schools via vouchers?

A: I favor vouchers for public schools. This is not an issue for the federal government. Schools must be controlled locally-- by the individual school, the principle along with the PTA--and by allowing dollars to follow students it creates competition among schools that will result in better schools.

No Child Left Behind forces teaching to the test

The federal No Child Left Behind program has gotten the federal government too involved in local decisions and has resulted in a negative impact--schools are forced to teach to tests and have been underfunded to meet the requirements of the law.
